Dr. Norman Reynolds is a nationally recognized expert in conducting psychiatric fitness-for-duty evaluations. He has been at the forefront of developing best practice standards. In January 2002, his chapter, “A Model Comprehensive Psychiatric Fitness-for-Duty Evaluation,” appeared in Occupational Medicine: State of the Art Reviews.
Twenty-five years ago, he began evaluating police officers at the request of the San Jose Police Department. His evaluation of employees includes workers of all skill levels and backgrounds. In addition, he has specific expertise in evaluating physicians, teachers, and law enforcement personnel.
Dr. Reynolds is the founder of Comprehensive Psychiatric Consulting Services. His practice of psychiatry focuses on behavioral risk management issues in the workplace. He consults with businesses regarding organizational and human resource issues. His clients include law firms, police departments, healthcare organizations, schools, private industry, and service organizations. Dr. Reynolds offers ombudsman services. He is a lecturer and workshop trainer. He provides clinical consultation and training to practicing mental health professionals.
Dr. Reynolds has been chosen for leadership positions in professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels. For eight years, he served on a Diversion Evaluation Committee for the California Medical Board. He served as the Liaison Committee to the Medical Board. He served as Vice Chair of the Oversight Committee of the Lawyers Assistance Program, State Bar of California. As a psychiatric consultant, he has provided services to State Physician Health Programs across the country. He served on the Ethics Committee for his psychiatric specialty organization. He has represented the United States at international meetings of the World Health Organization and the United Nations. Dr. Reynolds was appointed Vice Chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards' Work Group on Physician Impairment.
Dr. Reynolds is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The American Psychiatric Association elected him to the status of Distinguished Life Fellow because of his many significant and continuing contributions to the psychiatric profession. He was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award by the International Society for Communicative Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
